We spent three unforgettable days there, and here’s how it went.

Day 1: From Arusha to the Gates of the Wild

The day started early in Arusha. Our guide picked us up in a sturdy 4×4 jeep. Bags in the back, camera ready, coffee to-go. The drive to Serengeti National Park took a few hours, but it flew by. Along the way, we passed through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area — already an incredible sight.

As we entered the Serengeti, it felt like stepping into another world. The plains seemed endless. Within the first hour, we saw zebras, giraffes, and even a pride of lions lounging under an acacia tree. By evening, we reached our tented camp: comfy beds, running water, and dinner under a sky full of stars.

Day 2: Sunrise to Sunset Safari

Waking up to grunting hippos is… unique. But incredible. By 6 a.m., we were back on the road, just in time to spot a group of cheetahs hunting breakfast.

We explored different parts of the Serengeti — from open grasslands to more wooded areas. The scenery constantly changed, and so did the animals. Elephants, hyenas, hundreds of antelope, and even a leopard in a tree with fresh prey.

Lunch was a quick break under a tree (monitored by curious monkeys), then back to the road. The day ended with a magical sunset — giraffe silhouettes against a fiery sky.

Day 3: One Last Drive

On the final morning, we did one last short game drive. We were hoping for one more special sight — and we got it. A herd of elephants crossed the road right in front of our jeep, babies and all. Goosebumps.

After breakfast, we headed back to Arusha. Silence in the jeep — partly tired, partly lost in thought. What a trip.

Practical Tips

Best time to go: June to October (dry season and the Great Migration)

Bring: Binoculars, sunscreen, zoom camera, light clothes, warm layers for the evening

Where to stay: Tented camps offer the best safari feel. Lodges are available too for more comfort.

Final Thoughts

A safari in the Serengeti isn’t just a vacation — it’s an experience that stays with you. The smell of the savannah, the sounds of the wild at night, the vast landscapes — it touches something deep.
